Try Looking at The Same Thing With Fresh Eyes.
And pay a little more attention.
There’s a popular saying that goes, “You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.” I agree. But what if, beyond changing your actions, you simply realign your perception?
Stay with me.
I wouldn’t call myself a movie person, but one thing about me is that I never watch a movie I enjoyed just once. Sometimes, I watch it over and over until I can repeat my favorite lines word for word. Strangely, most times I enjoy it even more than I did the last time.
So recently, out of habit, I watched one of my all-time favorite movies: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. This was probably the third time I’d seen it, but weird as it may sound, it felt like the first time I was actually watching it.
I noticed things that felt too obvious to have missed before. For the first time, I paid real attention to the historical context and details that had always been in plain sight. And I kept wondering how I missed all those details the first two times?
Was it because, after the first watch, I approached the second with less attention, thinking, “I’ve seen this before”?
Anywayssssss that realization made me think a little deeper about life.
Many times, the reason we keep getting the same results is not necessarily because we keep doing the same thing (maybe you were right the first time), but because we believe we’ve already seen all there is to see. So when similar experiences show up, we approach them with the same “abeg I’ve seen this before” mindset.
Maybe, just maybe, if we step back and give certain things in life a second or third look, we’ll notice details we’ve missed all along. Sometimes our ideas about people, experiences, or even ourselves aren’t wrong, just not detailed enough. And what they require isn’t a brand-new perspective, but calmer eyes and a little more curiosity.
As we wind down the year and take inventory — writing goals, plans, and dreams for the next one (if you’re into that sort of thing) — maybe what you really need is to look back with fresh eyes. Try seeing your life as though someone else were telling you the story. Step outside yourself and notice the details you were too busy living to observe.
And for the new year, maybe you don’t actually need to do things differently, like the wise people have told us to. Maybe you just need to approach the things you’ve already been doing with a renewed perspective, a little more patience and some more attention to details.
Maybe you don’t need new eyes, just a new pair of glasses.
(Ewoo, that felt risky please tell me it worked.🫣🫣)
Because maybe the change you’re looking for has always been hiding in the small details you’ve been missing.
Well well, that’s it from me. The next time you would hear from me would most likely be after Christmas. TRY to have a jolly holiday and don’t cry (I feel like that advice is for me but yeah…)
As always, I love you and I will always always be rooting for you.
PS: Yes i used Emdash, No Chatgpt didn’t write this for me.🙄🙄
