Happy New Year

There is an igbo proverb that loosely translates to mean “whenever you choose to wake up, that's your morning”. I completely agree and on that note, Happy new year .

I got into this year with so much excitement but soooo little strength. 

Asin, the first two weeks of this year had me sleeping more than I have in a really really long time. I slept ehnnnn. I slept so much that at some point, I was sure something was wrong with me. See, I’d be so hungry but too sleepy and tired to get up and go and make something to eat. I slept so much that I rewarded every single human interaction with a quick nap. You don’t get it? Let me explain: every time I spoke with someone, whether over the phone, physically or via text, I’d tell myself I need to “sleep small” so that I can “calm my head down” and try being active again.

This week however, my energy has been trying to find some balance and I think I'm slowly but surely catching on to the new year. I saw a post somewhere where the person said 2025 starts in February, that January is our 30 days free trial. Walahi it’s like I may be agreeing with them because this laziness and lack of interest in almost everything is definitely not how I picture my 2025. 

Sha sha to the gist of  today…

You know It’s easy to say as grown ups that we can’t be easily influenced or that peer pressure cannot get to us right? What is funny is that sometimes, we are even more easily influenced than the younger folks. The difference is that ours is so subtle that we sometimes don’t realize it. One simple way to know this is to honestly ask yourself how many things you do without really knowing why and/or if you do the things you do because you want to or because you were told at some point that you should; whether directly or indirectly.

Look at vision boarding and the overall concept of planning for the new year now, why are we all now treating it like it’s something that assures a successful year beyond reasonable doubt? When and why did vision boarding become so popular? So popular and widely accepted that people now pay as much as 50k to join a vision boarding session (I’m not kidding, there’s a vision boarding session priced at 50k i saw online). Omooo na wa.

Don't get me wrong o, me I am a strong believer in vision boarding, planning and all that. so much of a believer that I have a vision board but stillll 

When did it become a criteria to have a good year? 

Because I mean, las las, no matter how much you plan and pray and how many boards you create, if you don’t take action, you will still have an underwhelming year. 

So why exactly are we busting our backs, stressing our pretty heads and doing some of the things we do?

See ehn, my point is that as the conversations in January continue to hover around planning and what not, if that is not how you work, don't join the bandwagon just because.

If you have and can continue to have a very result oriented year without all the “productivity hacks” they keep peddling around the internet or if you are not yet convinced to have any plans or goals yet, don’t. 

You are not an unserious person and you will not automatically fail.

…shaa, make sure you know what you are doing o.

And if for any reason you decide by  February, April, June or even November to create your own VB or whatever planning method you choose, refer to my first sentence in this mail. Just make sure you take your life seriously but gently.

I pray for you that if you have been having unfulfilled years in the past, 2025 will be different. I pray God opens your eyes to see what is required of you to have the best year yet. I pray 2025 is the year you finally have your heart desires met and your priorities realigned.
